Watch COLLEGE PARK, MD -- No. 6 Maryland (8-2) finishes up its two-game conference road trip when it travels to Columbus, Ohio, to play No. 2 Ohio State at the Ohio State Lacrosse Stadium on Saturday, April 12. The game is set for a 2 p.m. faceoff and will air on Big Ten Network.

This year marks the 100th season of Maryland men's lacrosse. The program has produced 525 All-Americans, 29 Final Fours, and four NCAA National Championships. The Terps have remarkably also finished .500 or better in every season.
Where we've been...
  • This season Maryland has wins over No. 18 Richmond, Loyola, No. 2 Syracuse, No. 5 Princeton, No. 1 Notre Dame, Delaware, No. 18 Virginia, and No. 7 Penn State, holding all eight opponents to 10 goals or fewer.
  • The Terrapins first loss of the season came on March 22. Michigan scored the deciding goal with 1:06 remaining in the third overtime to top then-No. 1 Maryland, 11-10. Maryland lost again on April 5 at Rutgers, 8-6.
  • The Terrapins are coming off their NCAA-best 21st consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and 29th Final Four, tied with Johns Hopkins for the most by any program. The Terps returned to the NCAA Championship game for the eighth time in 13 tournaments and the 17th time in program history.
  • With the Terps' 12-6 win at Virginia on March 15, Maryland joined Johns Hopkins and Syracuse as the only three schools with 900 all-time victories. The Terrapins .754 winning percentage is the best of any NCAA Division I school and far outpaces the Blue Jays (.729) and the Orange (.711).

Scouting The Buckeyes
  • The Buckeyes are 11-1 this season and are also 3-0 and in first place in the Big Ten. Ohio State opened the season with a 19-13 loss at home to Utah. Since then, OSU has won 11 straight, including a 14-5 home win over Virginia (2/22), a 10-9 road win at Notre Dame (3/8), a 13-9 road win at Penn State (3/23), and, most recently, a 14-10 road win at Johns Hopkins (4/5).
  • Offensively, senior attackman Alex Mariner leads the Buckeys and the Big Ten with 42 points on a conference-leading 40 goals, which is tied for second-most in the nation. Senior attackman Jack McKenna leads Ohio State with 14 assists, while sophomore attackman Garrett Haas is one back with 13 assists.
  • Defensively, sophomore Caleb Fyock has started the last 11 games in cage for the Buckeyes and leads the Big Ten with a 7.13 goals against average and a .626 save percentage. Since entering Big Ten play, Ohio State is allowing 10.0 goals per game to its opponents.
  • Ohio State head coach Nick Myers is in his 17th season as a head coach, all at Ohio State. He has a career record of 142-108 (.568).
Series history
  • Maryland is 14-3 all-time over Ohio State and has won the past four meetings dating back to 2019.
  • Last season saw the Terps edge the Buckeyes, 8-7, behind a four-goal effort from Eric Spanos. Maryland led 6-3 midway through the third quarter, but Ohio State scored three straight to tie the game with 6:28 to go in the fourth. Spanos then scored back-to-back goals less than a minute apart to give the Terrapins enough for the win. Logan McNaney made 10 saves to earn the win.
  • The Terps are 5-1 vs. the Buckeyes in Columbus, including three straight regular-season overtime games from 2015-19. Maryland won 10-9 in 2015 and 2019, while Ohio State took the 2017 meeting 11-10.
  • The overtime games in Columbus resumed in 2023 when Maryland came away with a 12-11 OT victory. Braden Erksa scored the game-winner 52 seconds into overtime to give the Terps the win. Maryland came back from a five-goal deficit and never led in the game until scoring the game-winner. Daniel Kelly led the Terrapin offense with four goals, while Eric Spanos and Zach Whittier each added two.
  • The 2022 meeting saw Maryland clinch the Big Ten Championship with a 19-12 victory at SECU Stadium on April 16. Logan Wisnauskas led the Terps with seven points on five goals and two assists. Luke Wierman won 20-of-35 faceoffs with 12 groundballs, a goal, and three caused turnovers.
  • Maryland and Ohio State played in Columbus on March 20, 2021, during the Big Ten-only home-and-home regular season schedule. A six-goal run, spanning the first to second quarters, opened up a 7-1 lead for the Terps, and they never looked back. Another six-goal run in the fourth quarter put things out of reach for the Buckeyes. Logan Wisnauskas led Maryland with seven points on four goals and three assists, while Jared Bernhardt was close behind with five points on three goals and two assists.
  • Ohio State's last victory in the series came on April 22, 2018, in College Park. The Buckeyes took a three-goal lead early in the third quarter, but Maryland rallied with three straight from Jared Bernhardt, Adam DiMilo, and Anthony DeMaio to knot the score up at 9-9. Ohio State answered with its own three-goal run to take a 12-9 lead. Connor Kelly scored his fourth of the game with 22 seconds remaining, but Maryland's comeback attempt ran out of time.
  • The two teams met three times in 2017. Maryland won the regular-season and Big Ten Tournament games, both in Columbus, by one goal. In the Big Ten Tournament, Colin Heacock scored his only goal of the game to break a 9-9 tie with 3:27 left in the fourth to give the Terps a 10-9 win. Connor Kelly scored five goals in the game for Maryland.
  • The third meeting in 2017 was the NCAA Championship game that saw the Terps end a 42-year title drought with a 9-6 victory on May 29. Tim Rotanz paced the offense with a hat trick, while Dan Morris registered 11 saves in net. Jon Garino was an unlikely hero, winning 10-of-14 faceoffs with eight groundballs.

  • Midway through the 2020s, the Terrapins are 67-16 (.807), which is on pace for the second-best winning percentage for a decade behind only the 1950s when the Terps were 84-15-1 (.845). The only other decade with a winning percentage of .800+ was the 1970s, with a mark of 85-21 (.802).
