COLLEGE PARK, MD – The Maryland men's basketball team will open the 2025-26 season on Monday, Nov. 3 at the CFG Bank Arena against Coppin State as part of the Naismith Hall of Fame Series Baltimore. The event will be a double-header featuring all local teams as Towson will face Loyola that evening as well.
"The Hall of Fame Series will be a tremendous way to open the upcoming season, and it is going to be special for the passionate basketball fans of Baltimore," said head coach
Buzz Williams. "I believe the last time the University of Maryland Men's Basketball team played in Baltimore was 2018, so it will be a good opportunity to get the Terps back in a city with such great basketball history."
Maryland holds a 2-1 edge in the all-time series, with all three match-ups taking place at College Park. The Eagles earned a 70-53 victory in the first meeting on December 12, 1989, with current Coppin State head coach Larry Stewart starring as a forward on that Eagles team. The Terrapins then posted a 95-79 win on November 25, 2022, and a 75-53 victory in the last meeting on December 28, 2023.
The last time Maryland played in Baltimore was during the 2018-19 season as the Terps defeated Loyola Chicago at the then-named Royal Farms Arena.
Last year marked the first time the event was held in Baltimore was Penn State defeated Virginia Tech and Virginia bested Villanova.
"Returning to Baltimore for a second year demonstrates the growing excitement around the Hall of Fame Series and the region's passion for college basketball," said Melissa Meacham-Grossman, President of Position Sports. "With Maryland headlining alongside respected local programs like Coppin State, Towson, and Loyola, this event highlights the incredible basketball tradition in and around Baltimore. It's an honor to partner with the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame to bring these matchups back to the world-class CFG Bank Arena."
Further details regarding ticketing, game time, broadcast coverage, and media credentials for the event will be shared at a later date.

Maryland is coming off a 27-9 campaign in 2024-25 which saw the Terps reach the NCAA Sweet Sixteen for the first time since 2016. In Big Ten play, Maryland finished second in the final standings with a 14-6 league record and reached the Big Ten Tournament semifinals for the first time since 2016.
On April 2, Maryland introduced Williams who will enter his first year at the helm this season. Williams has led his programs to 11 NCAA Tournament appearances and 13 20-win seasons in 18 years as a head coach.
