Porter’s Clutch Hit Leads Terps To Midweek Win At JMU, 6-4

HARRISONBURG, VA – Hollis Porter drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th inning as Maryland baseball defeated James Madison, 6-4, in extra innings at Veterans Memorial Park on Wednesday. Maryland improved to 23-27 overall heading into its series at Minnesota.

After a solo home run by James Madison (15-34) in the bottom of the ninth, both teams were tied at 4-4. The game went to extra innings, but Porter put the Terps ahead with an RBI double. Brayden Martin also stopped a sharply hit groundball to third base and threw the runner out at first to end the ninth inning and prevent the walk-off run from scoring.

Porter went 2-for-5 as the only Terp to record multiple hits. Cristofer Cespedes earned his first career win on the mound. The freshman pitched the final 1.2 innings and shut out the Dukes while not allowing a single hit. He also struck out the final two batters to end the game.
Maryland's other runs were driven in by Eddie Hacopian (RBI walk), Chris Hacopian (fielder's choice) and Martin (fielder's choice). Chris Hacopian also scored a run on a double play and a wild pitch. The latter run came after Porter's double for insurance. Chris Hacopian and Martin both scored two runs.
