Williams Announces Five Additions To 2025-26 Roster

Terps add transfers Collin Metcalf and Rakease Passmore as well as freshmen Aleks Alston, Nicholas Blake, and Jaziah Harper

COLLEGE PARK, MD – The first team of the Buzz Williams era is officially complete as the Maryland basketball program announced the final five additions to fill the 2025-26 roster. Williams has announced the addition of a pair of transfers in center Collin Metcalf (Northeastern) and guard Rakease Passmore (Kansas) as well as three freshmen: Aleks Alston (Chicago, IL), Nick Blake (Orlando, FL), and Jaziah Harper (Oak Park, IL).

Metcalf joins the Terps after a three-year career at Northeastern University in Boston. The native of Nortof, Germany, earned 2025 CAA All-Defensive Team honors last year as one of the nation's top shot blockers. Metcalf played in 32 games (with 30 starts) and finished the year with 78 blocks which ranked ninth in the NCAA, led the CAA, and were the third-most for a single-season in Northeastern history. He was also third on the team in rebounding (161) including three games with 10-or-more boards. He finished his junior year averaging 4.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks per game. Overall in his career, the 6-foot-9 center has played in 69 games with 107 blocks, 189 points (2.7 per game), and 231 rebounds (3.3 per game).

"I was very impressed when I met Collin by his maturity and disposition," said Williams. "He possesses unique skills as a basketball player, particularly as a rim protector, but his personality and experience compliment his game in an additive way. He will be a valued part of our organization in more ways than one."

Passmore joins Maryland after playing his freshman season at Kansas where he appeared in 23 games where he averaged 5.1 minutes. The explosive guard joins former Jayhawk David "Diggy" Coit in coming to College Park. Prior to his time in Lawrence, the native of Palatka, FL, played his final two prep seasons at Combine Academy in North Carolina. There he averaged 19.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.9 assists as a senior in 2023-24. He also averaged 13.9 points and 4.6 rebounds as a junior. Prior to transferring to Combine, Passmore began his high school career at A.C. Reynolds High School. There he averaged 19.0 points and nearly seven rebounds as a sophomore. He was ranked No. 34 overall by ESPN.com, No. 42 by Rivals.com, and No. 49 by 247Sports.com following his prep career.

"I think Rakease will really flourish being embedded into our culture. He has rare gifts as a player, but maybe even more exemplary traits as a human being," said Williams. "He wants to develop and be coached in every facet of his life as a player, student, and person. I think Terp Nation will really enjoy his presence on our team and around campus!"

A 6-foot-10 forward from Chicago, Alston is a stretch wing who had a standout career at Kenwood Academy. The four-star wing was the No. 1 player from the state of Illinois and the No. 22 power forward nationally. He also held offers from N.C. State, UNLV, Oregon, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan State, Arizona State, Cal, and Georgia. As a senior at Kenwood, he averaged nearly a double-double with 17 points and 9.8 rebounds while shooting 57 percent from the floor. That followed his junior campaign where he averaged 13.1 points and just over eight rebounds per game. He also played in the EYBL for the Mac Irvin Fire.

"Aleks has an ultra-high ceiling and a great foundation to build from. He provides a lot of versatility to our team in what he can do," said Williams. "He has a bright future and I am excited to watch him grow and develop as a young man on and off the court!"

Harper joins Maryland after finishing his high school career at the Bosco Institute. The 6-foot-7 wing (with a 7-foot wingspan) chose Maryland over Indiana while also receiving interest from Wisconsin, Clemson, Baylor, and Michigan. At the Bosco Institute, he averaged 17 points, seven rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.5 blocks per game, while shooting 52 percent overall from the floor and 37 percent from beyond the arc.

"The character of Jaziah speaks to who his family is, and how he was raised," said Williams. "He is wise beyond his years, and that permeates into his habits and daily routines. We are thrilled he is here on Team Bus 1!"

The son of legendary Terp Steve Blake, Nick Blake averaged 10.8 points last year at Olympia High School in Orlando where he was a primary three-point shooter. Through 28 games with the Titans, Blake was 76-of-198 from three-point range while adding 2.6 rebounds per game. Nearly 76 percent of his total shots came from beyond the arc. He was an Academic All-State selection by the Florida Athletic Coaches Association.

"I think Nick will be an important piece of what we're building here at Maryland," said Williams. "He has all the characteristics of what a coach would want for a player in the locker room going into year one of laying a foundation. I am thankful he is here and excited to watch him grow and develop on and off the floor!"

Maryland is coming off a 27-9 campaign in 2024-25 which saw the Terps reach the NCAA Sweet Sixteen for the first time since 2016.
