COLLEGE PARK, MD – Maryland men's basketball head coach
Buzz Williams announced today the addition of Kayla Hackenberg and Grant Hendrix to the staff. Hackenberg will serve as the Director of Basketball Administration and Head Coach Operations, while Hendrix will be the Director of Basketball Operations.
Â
Hackenberg joins Williams' staff after spending 11 years working with the Ohio State football program including the previous five as the Assistant Director of Football Operations and Administration. In her time with the Buckeyes, Hackenberg was responsible in the areas of camps and clinics, travel and as a liaison to the program for former players along with coaches, staff, families, and NFL personnel. She also managed student interns and coordinated special events.

"Kayla will play a critical role in the success of our staff and program. She's not just running our office—she's the head coach of my time. And that probably comes with as much nuance of any job in our organization's bucket list," said Williams. "We sought her out for a variety of reasons, but her intelligence, her integrity, and her track record of execution are unparalleled. Those aren't just traits—they're habits that compound over time. Kayla has a bright future in this profession, and I'm grateful she's chosen to build with us in College Park."

Hendrix enters his second year working with Williams after serving in a similar role at Texas A&M during the 2024-25 season. He is responsible for the daily logistics related to the men's basketball program. Prior to his time with Williams, Hendrix worked six years for the Houston Texans including as the team's football operations and team logistics manager. He previously served as the executive assistant for former Texans head coach David Culley and started his career with the Texans as an intern in football operations and facilities in 2019 after he received his bachelor's and master's degrees at Auburn.
"I'm thrilled Grant is joining us at the University of Maryland. He's the ultimate teammate — the kind of person every great organization needs. Grant handles everything off the court, and in a fast-paced environment where details matter, his role can often be thankless and demanding," said Williams. "But he brings a level of care, professionalism, and problem-solving that is unmatched. He has a gift for putting out fires before they ever reach me or the staff. He's going to be a major asset to everything we build here in College Park."
