Men’s Basketball Announces 2025-26 Non-Conference Schedule

COLLEGE PARK, MD – The Maryland men's basketball program officially announced it's 2025-26 non-conference slate on Monday. The Terps will host six home games at XFINITY Center including an exhibition game against UMBC. The schedule is highlighted by games against regional rivals Georgetown and Virginia, games against UNLV and Gonzaga in the Las Vegas Players Era Championship Tournament, and the season-opener against Coppin State in Baltimore.

The first chance fans will have to see the 107th edition of the Maryland men's basketball team, and the first under new head coach Buzz Williams, will be on Monday, Oct. 27 in an exhibition game against UMBC.

The season opener will be on Monday, Nov. 3 against Coppin State in the Hall of Fame Series Baltimore doubleheader at CFG Bank Arena. That night will also feature a game against Loyola and Towson as well as a special recognition of Maryland head coaching great Gary Williams by the Naismith Hall of Fame.

The home opener features the first in a four-game series against long-time DMV rival Georgetown. Maryland is 38-27 all-time against the Hoyas and this will mark the first time since the 2016-17 series that the programs have met.

Maryland's trip to Las Vegas for the Players Era Championship Tournament during the Thanksgiving week will begin on Monday against UNLV before facing Gonzaga on Tuesday. Depending on the Terps record along with tournament tie-breaking procedures, the Terps will then play a third game on either Wednesday or Thursday. Both the UNLV (12 AM ET / 9 PM PT) and Gonzaga (9:30 PM ET / 6:30 PM PT) games will be played in the MGM Grand Garden Arena. The UNLV game will be televised on TNT, while the Gonzaga game will be on TRU TV.

December will feature three non-conference games and two Big Ten games. The month will begin on Tuesday, Dec. 2 against Wagner before playing the two league games. Following the break for exams, the Terps will then face former ACC rival Virginia in Charlottesville in a renewal of the longest standing rivalry in program history. The teams have met 184 previous times with Maryland holding a 108-76 record in the series.

The Terps will close out the non-conference schedule against Old Dominion on Sunday, December 28. The Monarchs are led by former Maryland assistant coach and longtime DeMatha High School coach Mike Jones.

Tip times and television assignments as well as the dates for Maryland's Big Ten schedule will be announced in the near future. All games will be broadcast on the Maryland Sports Radio Network with legendary Voice of the Terps Johnny Holliday, Chris Knoche, and Walt Williams calling the action.

On April 2, Maryland introduced Williams who will enter his first year at the helm this season. Williams has led his programs to 11 NCAA Tournament appearances and 13 20-win seasons in 18 years as a head coach.

Maryland is coming off a 27-9 campaign in 2024-25 which saw the Terps reach the NCAA Sweet Sixteen for the first time since 2016.
