COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Each week during the 2025-26 season a Maryland student-athlete, who has shown excellence on and off the playing field, will be selected as the
Solomon Eye Physicians & Surgeons Terp of the Week.
This week's Terp of the Week is
Kelsey Smith of the women's soccer team (2-0).Â
An Elkridge, Md., native, Smith opened the season in style, netting the Terps' first goal of the year against Lehigh on Thursday evening. The redshirt junior struck unassisted in the 20th minute, cutting across the middle and weaving through defenders for her first goal of the season. She followed up with a standout performance on Sunday, scoring twice and adding an assist in Maryland's commanding 5–0 shutout of Saint Francis. Smith finished the match with three shots, two goals, two shots on goal, and one assist to cap off an impressive opening week.
Smith's seven points in the opening weekend are one shy of Maryland's 2024 team leader (eight points) for the entire season.Â
In scoring five goals on Sunday, the Terps netted their most goals in a game since Oct. 6, 2019, when they beat Illinois, 6-2. That game was also the last time Maryland two two players score multiple goals in a game (Adalee Broadbent and Alyssa Poarch).Â
Smith and the Terps stay in College Park to wrap up their three-match homestand on Aug, 21, when they play UMBC. The match starts at 7 PM and will air on B1G+.
