Maryland Falls to No. 8 Penn State 4-0 to Open Big Ten Play

The Terps were defeated in their first conference match of the season.

STATE COLLEGE, PA - Maryland (4-4, 0-1 Big Ten) opened its conference slate with a tough road task in a road match with No. 8 Penn State (4-2-1, 1-0 Big Ten) and fell 4-0 to the Nittany Lions on Thursday night. 

The Nittany Lions scored early on Amelia White's second goal of the season in the ninth minute and again seconds later with Aubrey Kulpa's seventh goal of 2025. 

Penn State added on early in the second half with a goal from Kaitlyn MacBean in the 50th minute as Kulpa picked up an assist. Penn State got its fourth goal of the night in the 53rd minute as MacBean scored her second of the match. 

Penn State went on to win 4-0 as the Nittany Lions took the conference opener on their home grass. 

How it Happened:
  • Faith Luckey made her first save of the night in the second minute. 
  • Penn State scored in the ninth minute on a shot from White.
  • The Nittany Lions scored again in the ninth minute on Kulpa's seventh goal of the year.
  • Ellie Egeland recorded Maryland's first shot in the 10th minute. 
  • Luckey made her third save of the first half in the closing minutes.
  • MacBean scored in the 50th minute to put PSU up 3-0.
  • MacBean scored again three minutes later to expand the lead. 
  • Egeland applied pressure with her second shot of the night in the 68th minute and another off the crossbar in the 71st.
