No. 10 Maryland Falls 2-1 to No. 8 Princeton

The Terps were defeated at home for the first time all season on Sunday.

COLLEGE PARK, MD — An unfortunate 3rd quarter led to No. 8 Princeton (5-3, 1-1 Ivy League) defeating No. 10 Maryland (6-3, 2-0 Big Ten) 2-1 in College Park on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers netted the contest's first two goals and fought off a late rally from the Terps to become the first team to beat Maryland at home in 2025. 

Princeton scored late in the first half on a goal from Beth Yeager. The Tigers took a 1-0 lead into the half on its only shot on goal of the first two quarters. 

Princeton outshot Maryland 9-1 in the 3rd quarter and found its second goal of the day on a shot from Ella Hampson. Her timely goal doubled the Tigers' lead in the closing seconds of the 3rd quarter. 

Maci Bradford responded with her fourth goal of the season on Maryland's first corner of the match in the 4th quarter.  Maryland cut the Tigers' lead in half and turned up the pressure in the closing minutes, but Princeton held on to become just the third team to defeat the Terps in 2025. 

How it Happened:
1st Quarter:
  • Ella Gaitan recorded the match's first shot in the opening seconds, forcing an early Princeton save. 
  • Princeton's first shot also came in the first minute.
  • Jordyn Hollamon had a shot blocked in the ninth minute.
  • Maryland outshot the Tigers 2-1 in a scoreless first frame. 
2nd Quarter:
  • Maryland blocked a Princeton shot in the 16th minute. 
  • Princeton drew the match's first penalty corner in the 22nd minute. 
  • The Tigers scored the match's first goal in the 24th minute. 
  • Princeton led 1-0 at the half.
3rd Quarter:
  • Maryland blocked a Princeton shot in the 32nd minute.
  • Alyssa Klebasko made her first save in the 36th minute
  • Gaitan put up another shot in the 39th minute. 
  • Klebasko made a pair of saves in the 40th minute.
  • The Terps fought off a corner in the 41st minute.
  • Maryland successfully defended another penalty corner in the 43rd minute.
  • Klebasko made four saves in the 3rd quarter.
  • The Tigers scored again in the 45th minute.
  • Princeton outshot Maryland 9-1 in the 3rd quarter and took a 2-0 lead into the final frame.
4th Quarter:
  • Maryland drew its first penalty corner in the 51st minute. 
  • Bradford scored in the 52nd minute to half the deficit with her fourth goal of the season.
  • The Terps defended another Tigers penalty corner in the 55th minute. 
  • Maryland pulled its keeper to get an extra attacker in the 56th minute.
  • Maryland was awarded a pair of penalty corners in the 59th minute, but wee unable to score. 
Numbers to Know:
  • 3: Maryland went 3-1 across its stretch of four straight matches against ranked opponents. 
  • 13: Bradford extended her team-leading points total to 13 with her goal.
