COLLEGE PARK, MD - Maryland women's lacrosse head coach Cathy Reese announced the team's 2026 schedule on Thursday.
"We're incredibly excited to get the 2026 season underway," said Reese. "We had a great fall together, welcoming a lot of new talent while also returning a strong core of experienced players, and we can't wait to showcase this group in the spring."
Eight of Maryland's 16 opponents finished last season ranked in the top 25 of the IWLCA Poll, including seven teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
"With seven teams on our schedule that competed in last year's NCAA Tournament, we believe this will prepare us to compete at the highest level as we work toward our NCAA postseason goals. Our fans are going to have a lot of fun watching this roster with a blend of veteran leadership and emerging talent that will make College Park an exciting place to be this season!"
The Terps will open the season on the road, traveling to face Syracuse in the Dome on Feb. 6. Last season, Syracuse defeated Maryland in College Park in a top-10 matchup to open the season.
Maryland will then host its first home game of the year against Virginia on Feb. 14. The two teams last met during the 2025 One Love game at Notre Dame Preparatory School. The One Love game was founded in 2010 to honor the memory of former Virginia women's lacrosse student-athlete Yeardley Love.
The Terps will return to the road for two games, visiting Georgetown on Feb. 18 and Saint Joseph's on Feb. 20. The Hoyas are led by former Maryland assistant coach and Terp alum Caitlyn Phipps, who is entering her second season as Georgetown's head coach.
Maryland will return to College Park on Feb. 28 to host Princeton. The Terps and Tigers last met in 2024, when Maryland earned a 16-12 road victory.
The Terps will then travel to face Hofstra on March 4, marking the first meeting between the programs since 2020. Maryland holds a 9-0 all-time record against the Pride.
James Madison will visit College Park on March 7. Maryland defeated the Dukes 11-5 last season in Harrisburg, snapping JMU's 19-game home winning streak that dated back to 2022.
Maryland will make its longest trip of the season with a matchup at Oregon, marking the program's first game in Eugene. Last season, the Terps defeated Oregon 16-4 in College Park during the Ducks' inaugural Big Ten season, highlighted by three different Terps recording hat tricks. Former Terp Theo Kwas serves as an assistant coach at Oregon. Kwas played at Maryland from 2014-17 and helped the Terps win three national championships and four Big Ten titles.
The Terps will then remain home for two weeks, hosting Penn on March 19 and USC on March 22. The matchup against Penn will serve as a rematch of last season's NCAA Tournament second-round double-overtime thriller, in which Penn advanced with an 11-10 victory.
Maryland will travel in-state to face Johns Hopkins on March 26. The Terps defeated the Blue Jays 13-11 in last season's regular-season finale, earning the program's 800th win, the most in women's college lacrosse history.
The Terps will close out their home schedule with three consecutive games against Penn State, Rutgers, and Northwestern. Maryland will host Penn State on March 29, followed by Rutgers on April 4, before wrapping up its home slate against Northwestern on April 9. Maryland and Northwestern met in an instant classic in last year's Big Ten Championship in College Park, where JJ Suriano recorded a career-high 18 saves. The performance tied the Big Ten Tournament record, previously set by Penn State's Taylor Suplee in 2019, and marked the most saves by a Maryland goalkeeper since Megan Taylor recorded 20 against Florida on March 29, 2017.
Big Ten play will conclude with Maryland traveling to Michigan on April 16, followed by a trip to Columbus to face Ohio State on April 18.
Maryland will be led by key All-American returners Kori Edmondson, Neve O'Ferrall, Kayla Gilmore, JJ Suriano, and Kennedy Major. Edmondson is coming off a standout junior season in which she was named the 2025 Big Ten Midfielder of the Year and a Tewaaraton Award Top-25 finalist.
The Terps also welcome three transfers to College Park. Maryland native Keeley Block joins the program after four seasons at Penn. Block earned 2025 Second Team All-Ivy and Second Team IWLCA All-Region honors after starting 19 games and recording 42 goals last season.
Graduate transfer Kristen Shanahan joins the Terps after playing at Notre Dame. A team captain for the Irish in 2025, Shannahan started 14 games and finished second on the team with 27 goals and 41 points.
Senior goalkeeper Caitlin Boden joins the Terps after three seasons at James Madison. Boden finished her JMU career ranked fifth in program history in saves (196) and 19th in save percentage (.438).
Maryland also welcomes nine freshmen to College Park, led by Ava Meyn and Sofia Herrera, who were both named to the Inside Lacrosse Freshman Power 100. Meyn was ranked No. 7, while Herrera checked in at No. 37. Meyn was also named USA Lacrosse Northeast Player of the Year.
The team will open the season playing at SECU Stadium. Stay tuned for details of when we'll return to the 'Plex.
Game times and TV destinations will be announced at a later date. All game dates are subject to change for television.
