Terps Battle Bruins, Fall 67-55 To UCLA

Elijah Saunders recorded his first double-double as a Terp on a night where Maryland outrebounded UCLA 48-29.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Maryland battled with the Bruins late into Saturday night, but the Terps fell 67-55 to UCLA in their first of two Big Ten Conference games on the West Coast. Elijah Saunders led the Terps (7-9, 0-5 Big Ten) with a double-double, but a UCLA run in the first half earned the Bruins their 11th win of the season.

Saunders posted his first double-double as a Terp — and third of his career — with a season-high 17 points and career-high 12 rebounds. Darius Adams recorded his 11th-career double-figure game with 13 points. UCLA got 16 points from Trent Perry and 15 from Eric Dailey Jr. as the Bruins moved to 10-0 at home this season.

Maryland dominated the Bruins on the boards, outrebounding UCLA 48-29 on the road. Solomon Washington and Saunders led the Terps' rebounding efforts with 12 each as Washington earned his fourth game with double-digit rebounds this season.

Maryland finished the game on a strong note, outscoring ULCA 34-29 in the second half. The Terps got 26 points in the paint and 24 second-chance points. They'll look to end their West Coast road trip with a win over USC on Jan. 13.
