Coit Scores 30 As Terps Drop 88-71 Decision At USC

Diggy Coit became the first Terp since Jahmir Young to score 30 points in a road game as Maryland battled USC on Tuesday night.

LOS ANGELES, CA — David Coit led the Terps' charge against the Trojans on Tuesday night, but a second-half surge from USC earned the Trojans their first-ever win over Maryland, 88-71.

Coit had a monster game for Maryland, scoring 30 points, which included four three-pointers and 8-of-9 shooting from the charity stripe. He led all scorers with 19 points in the razor-thin first half.
Coit posted his third 30+ point game of the season and the ninth of his career. He now has three of Maryland's eight 20+ point performances in 2025-26. He became the first Terp to score 30+ on the road since Jahmir Young had 31 against MSU in 2024. Darius Adams scored 11 points as he continued to find his footing in his freshman season, posting his fourth double-digit day in his past five games. Solomon Washington led the Terps' rebounding efforts with eight boards in his 11-point night.

The Trojans dealt the final blows in the Big Ten bout, using a 10-0 run in the second half to build momentum and pull away with the win. Jordan Marsh had 20 points for USC to lead the Trojans in scoring. The Terps made 14 of their 21 free throws in the first half, taking advantage of Trojan fouls. Maryland returns to College Park to celebrate its Hispanic Heritage Day against Penn State on Jan. 18.

Buzz Williams' Breakdown:
  • "We have, in a mature way, accepted where we're deficient and accepted where we need to improve, and we're trying to have a spirit of learning."
  • "I think we played pretty well in the first half and the first 10 minutes of the second half."
  • "We are so reliant on offensive rebounds. We didn't do a great job of that, but we did a much better job getting fouled and we did a good job not fouling them."
  • "I thought that changing defenses at times was very effective. Our collective thought was much better and much more fluid. There was more symmetry happening on both ends of the floor and I didn't think there were as many mental errors."
  • "Not good enough, but making some strides. I appreciate the resiliency of our group."
  • "There were some positives. In six days in California, we've learned a lot. We've got to apply those things."
