COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Maryland closes out a three-game home stretch on Wednesday night as Indiana visits the XFINITY Center. The game will tip at 6:30 PM and will be televised on BTN. Legendary Voice of the Terps
Johnny Holliday will call the action for the Maryland Sports Radio Network alongside Chris Knoche and Walt Williams.
The early schedule has turned into one of Maryland's toughest of all-time with four AP Top 25 teams in that six game stretch (Iowa was No. 25 in USA Today Coaches Poll, but receiving votes in AP Top Top 25 poll). The closest previously was Maryland's 1955-56 schedule that had three straight AP ranked teams (#12 Kentucky, #11 North Carolina, No. 16 Michigan State) and then No. 7 George Washington in an early six-game stretch.
The 10 games featuring AP-ranked opponents on the regular-season schedule marks the most for a single season since facing 12 in 2003-04.
The Terps have had a total of 31 games missed this year due to injury including leading scorer
Pharrel Payne (17.5ppg) who has missed the last three after being injured against Michigan.
Series History
- Indiana leads the all-time series 14-10, but the Terps picked up a road win, 79-78, last year thanks to a Rodney Rice buzzer-beating three pointer in Bloomington.
- In College Park, the Terps hold a 5-4 edge in the series, but have lost two of the last three meetings in XFINITY.
- Maryland defeated Indiana, 64-52, to claim the 2002 NCAA National Championship at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
- Before being conference rivals, Indiana and Maryland played twice in the NCAA Tournament (1981, 2002) and twice in the ACC/Big Ten Tournament (2002, 2009).
Solo Making An Impact
- After missing the first eight games of the season due to injury, Solomon Washington has given a veteran presence to the line-up since his return at the start of December. The senior is averaging 10.0 points and 9.0 rebounds in his six games played.
- Washington made his Maryland debut on Dec. 2 against Wagner where he had 10 points and six rebounds.
- He had his first double-double as a Terp with 13 points and a career-high 13 rebounds against Old Dominion. That marked the second straight game he had double-figure rebounds (12 vs. Virginia).
- He added his second double-double of the year with a team-high 17 points and 12 rebounds against Oregon
Diggy, Diggy, Diggy Can't You See...
- Diggy Coit had himself a night in the win over Mount St. Mary's. The graduate guard scored 41 points to set a new XFINITY Center single-game scoring record. The previous XFINITY Center record was 39 by Diamond Stone in 2015 for Maryland and 39 by Jamison Battle of Minnesota in 2022.
- Coit scored 16 of Maryland's final 19 points in the last 6:27 of the second half including the game-tying three pointer to force overtime.
- Overall, Coit finished with a ridiculous stat line: 11-of-17 from the floor, 8-of-10 beyond the arc, and 11-of-11 at the free throw line. Dating back to 2004, Coit is just one of 14 players to shoot 64 percent or better from the floor with 8-or-more threes and 11-or-more made free throws.
- He earned Big Ten Player of the Week and USBWA National Player of the Week honors for the performance.
- Diggy Coit's 1,410 career points are 44th among active NCAA players.
- Among the top 14 players under 6-0 on the scoring list, the 5-foot-11 Coit has the fifth-most career points.
Palpable Buzz
- Buzz Williams was named head coach at Maryland on April 2, 2025 after re-building Texas A&M into a program that reached three consecutive NCAA Tournaments. - Williams is one of 12 active Division I head coaches to win at least one NCAA Tournament game at three different programs. He's coached in 23 NCAA Tournament games, winning 12, both of which rank among the Top 25 among all Division I head coaches.
- In 2024-25, Buzz Williams earned his 100th win at Texas A&M with a 77-73 victory over Creighton (11/27). He joined Tennessee's Rick Barnes as the only head coaches to win 100+ games at three power conference schools.
