Terps Rout Georgetown 16-3 In Home Opener

Eight different Terps scored as Maryland moved to 3-1 on the season.

COLLEGE PARK, MD — An nine-run fifth inning propelled Maryland to a 16-3 win over Georgetown in the Terps' home opener on Tuesday night. Freshman shortstop Ty Kaunas drove in his first four RBIs of his career as Maryland dominated the rival Hoyas to improve to 3-1 in 2026. Eight different Terps crossed home as they won their second home opener in the past three seasons. Maryland took advantage of five Georgetown errors as the Terps' bats rolled all night long with eight different guys recording hits.

Maryland got after Georgetown starter Charlie Hendrix early. Brayden Martin knocked the Terps' first triple of the season, and the first of his career, off the wall in right field before Kaunas brought him home with a double for his first-career RBI. The Terps broke the game open as they brought 13 hitters to the plate in the fifth. Antonio Morales and David Mendez led the frame off with back-to-back hits, setting Kaunas up for another big moment. His second RBI double of the game drove both runs in as the Terps regained Tuesday's lead.  Ryan Costello sent his second homer of the season out to right a batter later as Maryland claimed a 6-2 advantage. Georgetown kicked the ball around and issued four free passes in the frame, allowing the Terps to take an 11-2 lead with their nine-run, five-hit inning, which marked their biggest frame since plating 10 in an inning against Princeton a season ago.  Landon Edwards made his first start as a Terp as the first of four Maryland arms used on Tuesday night. Brayden Ryan took over in the third and recorded his 100th-career strikeout as a part of a four-inning scoreless outing. Ryan allowed just one hit and collected three strikeouts. He retired the first 10 batters he faced as he earned his first win of 2026.  Morales' hit his first homer of the year — a 394-foot bomb to straightaway center — as Maryland added five runs across its final two offensive innings, which was more than enough run support for the Terp arms on a dominant all-around night.  How it Happened:
