COLLEGE PARK, MD – After averaging 30.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists against Northwestern and Washington last week, Maryland's Andre Mills has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week. It's the first time the Boston native has earned a weekly award from the league office.
Mills was also selected as the Solomon Eye Physicians & Surgeons Terp of the Week.
On Wednesday at Northwestern, Mills tied Maryland's freshman scoring record for a single-game with a career-high 39 points. That matched Diamond Stone who did the same against Penn State in 2015. Mills was 12-of-17 from the floor including 6-of-9 from beyond the arc. It was just the fourth time since 1994 that a Terp freshman has scored 30-or-more in a game.
In Saturday's win over Washington, the guard had a game-high 21 points for his third 20-point effort of the season. In the final two minutes against the Huskies, he scored all of Maryland's seven points including the go-ahead triple to seal the win. He also tied his career-high with five assists in the win.
For the year, Mills is now averaging 11.3 points to go with 3.9 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. Over the last four games, he has averaged 23.3 points, while over the last nine he is at 17.2 points per game.
Mills and the Terps return to action on Wednesday night when Maryland heads to Nebraska. Tip off is set for 7 PM ET on BTN and can be heard on the Maryland Sports Radio Network with legendary Voice of the Terps Johnny Holliday calling the action alongside Chris Knoche.
