Maryland To Host Wagner In First Home Series Of Season

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- The Maryland Terrapins (4-4) will play their first home series of the season in a weekend matchup against the Wagner Seahawks (1-5). This is the first time these two teams will face off. The series is three games long and spans from Feb. 27 to March 1. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. on Friday, 2 p.m. on Saturday and the series will close out with a 1 p.m. start time on Sunday. Tickets can be purchased here. All games will be streamed on B1G+ and can be heard on Maryland Baseball Network.

  • The Terps are coming off a walk-off 15-14 win against the Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens. 
  • Paul Jones II made his mark on the game by hitting his first homer of the season in the bottom of the fourth and later hitting the walk-off single to guide the Terps to the win in the bottom of the ninth inning.
  • Freshman Bud Coombs also knocked the ball over the wall in the bottom of the fourth to earn his first career home run. 
  • The Terps struck out 14 Delaware batters on Tuesday, their most in a single game this season so far.
  • Logan Hastings opened the season with 10.1 no-hit innings and still holds a 0.00 ERA over 12.2 innings pitched.

  • Rylen Stockton and Ryan Costello led the Terps with three hits apiece on Tuesday night. Both contributed two RBI. Stockton currently leads the team with a .400 batting average and a .516 on-base percentage.
  • Ty Kaunas had three RBI against the Blue Hens, bringing his season total to seven. Kaunas added two doubles on Tuesday bringing him to five on the season which leads the team.
  • The Terps tied their season-high in hits with 14 vs. Delaware. The previous mark was set vs. Georgetown a week ago.
  • The Terps are currently averaging 9.5 hits per game.

  • Right-handed pitchers Lance Williams and Logan Hastings lead the team in strikeouts with 11 apiece.
  • Hastings has pitched 12.2 innings so far allowing only three hits and zero earned runs to contribute to his .47 WHIP and .079 batting average against. His seven strikeouts against Louisiana on Feb. 22 are the most by a Terp in a single game this season.
  • Williams, who was featured on Big Ten Plays to Watch List, is living up to expectations with a 1.86 ERA through his first two starts with 9.2 innings pitched.

  • Redshirt freshman Ryan Costello is off to a scorching start to the season.
  • Costello is tied with Brayden Martin for the most hits on the team with 11.
  • He not only leads the team in home runs with five but also has the eighth most nationally and is tied for the most in the country by a freshman.
  • Costello leads the team in an additional four categories: total bases (28), RBI (15), slugging percentage (.800) and extra-base hits (seven).
Stanley Bobb Baseball Player Development Center
  • On, Jan. 14, 2025, Maryland unveiled the new Stanley Bobb Baseball Performance Center. This will serve as the new indoor training facility for the Maryland Baseball program.
  • This new state-of-the-art facility will allow baseball student-athletes the opportunity to train year round in a controlled environment, allowing them to continue to hone their skills regardless of the conditions.
  • The 8,500 square foot facility will have defined spaces for both pitchers and hitters in a climate controlled environment. The facility features state-of-the-art technology.
  • This project is one of the many as part of Maryland's Building Champions initiative, a campaign that enables investment in facility renovation and enhancement.
  • The facility is named after the late Stanley Bobb, who pitched for the Terps from 1954-57. A member of the Greater Washington Jewish Sports Hall of Fame, Bobb was the starting pitcher in the dedication game at then-Shipley Field in 1954.
