Terps Fall to No. 22 West Virginia in Midweek Clash

Maryland takes a 10-6 record into Big Ten play.

Box Score MORGANTOWN, WV — Maryland suffered a 10-3 midweek loss to No. 22 West Virginia on the road on Tuesday afternoon. West Virginia scored 10 runs across the first four innings to move to 4-1 at home in 2026 and drop the Terps to 10-6 ahead of Big Ten play.

The Mountaineers' bats exploded out of the gate on Tuesday, taking advantage of 10 hits and eight Terp walks in the first four innings to open a 10-0 lead on a Maryland pitching staff that used six arms in the midweek. James Gladden threw two scoreless innings with four strikeouts before Cristofer Cespedes pitched a blank frame to limit the damage in the loss.

Franklin Pichardo Jr. smacked a pinch-hit homer in the ninth to record his first-career homer and get the Maryland on the board late. 
West Virginia's pitching staff limited the Terps to six hits in just their sixth loss of 2026. Maryland gets Big Ten play started with a weekend series against Purdue, starting on Mar. 13.
