Maryland’s Season Closes With 75-64 Loss to Iowa in Big Ten Tournament

The Terps hit seven triples in their final game of the season.

CHICAGO, IL — Maryland fell to ninth-seeded Iowa in the Big Ten Tournament 75-64 to wrap up the 2025-26 men's basketball season on Wednesday afternoon. The Terps used a big first-half run to build a lead, but Iowa rallied in the second half as Maryland finished the season with a 12-21 record. 

The Terps used a 15-0 run midway through the first half to build a 21-10 lead over the Hawkeyes. The run marked the Terps' second-longest run of the season. In two games in the 2026 TIAA Big Ten Tournament, Maryland only allowed 37 points in the first half. The Terps took a 26-25 lead over the Hawkeyes into the break. Isaiah Watts was key in Maryland's first half, knocking down a trio of three-pointers. Watts finished with 12 points as the Terps moved their season three-point total to 279, which ranks second-ever in Maryland single-season history.  Darius Adams led the Terps with 14 points as he went 6-of-7 from the floor. David Coit contribited 12 while Solomon Washington's 13 rebounds set a new program record a Big Ten Tournament game and helped Maryland outgain the Hawkeyes 34-25 on the glass in the tournament clash. 

Iowa used a 21-0 run across six minutes in the second half to rally and pull away from the Terps. The Hawkeyes got 19 points from Cooper Koch to move to 21-11 on the season and advance in the 2026 TIAA Big Ten Tournament.

How it Happened:
1st Half:
  • Washington scored the game's first three points to get the scoring started. 
  • Adams got on the board with a layup to put Maryland up 6-5 six minutes in.
  • Watts hit Maryland's first triple of the day eight minutes in.
  • Watts' second three built a 14-10 Maryland lead midway through the half
  • Maryland's 15-0 run created a 21-10 advantage.
  • Watts nailed a third triple to move to nine points on the day, which finished a run of six consecutive field goals by the Terps.
  • Adams put Maryland ahead 24-14 with a triple. 
  • Iowa used an 11-2 run to crawl closer in the final minutes.
  • The Terps took a 26-25 lead into the break.
2nd Half:
  • Andre Mills opened the second half with a three-pointer.
  • Saunders drained an early triple to put Maryland up 34-30.
  • Iowa used a 21-0 run to claim a 51-34 advantage eight minutes into the half. 
  • Adams became the first Terp in double figures.
  • Iowa hit a three-pointer to go up 59-47 with 6:36 to play.
  • Watts' fourth three put him in double figures.
  • Coit reached double figures with a pair of late free throws.
  • The Hawkeyes closed out their 75-64 win.
Double-Digit Days:
  • Adams (14 points) tallied his 20th double-figure scoring game of his freshman season.
  • Coit (12 points) reached double digits for the 20th time this season and the 76th time in his career. 
  • Watts (12 points) scored in double figures for the fourth time this season and the 20th time in his career.
