Maryland Travels To Delaware For Midweek Clash

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- The Maryland Terrapins (7-4) make their way up University of Delaware for a midweek clash against the Fightin' Blue Hens (5-7) on March 4. This is the 48th matchup between these two teams and second in eight days. The Terps beat the Blue Hens in the home leg courtesy of a Paul Jones II walk-off in an enthralling 15-14 game on Feb. 24. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. on Wednesday and the game can be listened to on Maryland Baseball Network and watched on ESPN+.

  • The Maryland Terrapins (7-4) are riding a four-game win streak into Newark, DE that saw the Terps score 61 runs over the four games. The win streak has included 53 hits, eight home runs, six double-plays, 42 walks, and 15 steals.
  • The defense showed out with six double plays over the weekend, with four coming in four straight innings on Saturday which marks the most double plays in a single game since May 2023 for the Terps.

Beauty of the bats
  • The Terps tallied 39 hits and 42 RBI over the weekend. 
  • Freshman Bud Coombs is hitting .600 in his first 10 at bats. His two home runs and three doubles contribute to his 2.214 OPS.
  • Ty Kaunas got five hits while driving in five over the weekend. He is tied with Ryan Costello for second most hits on the team.
  • Paul Jones II had the first walk-off RBI of the week for the Terps, while also gaining an additional 5 RBI in the past four games to move up to 10 on the season. Three coming from a 414 foot blast over the center field wall on Saturday.
  • Jordan Crosland, who had the second walk-off RBI of the week, also had a productive weekend. On Saturday he had his first homer of the season and helped four runners cross home plate. He finished with two home runs and six RBI on the weekend.

  • Logan Hastings is having a scorching start to the season.
  • Hastings opened the season with 10.1 no-hit innings vs. UNC Wilmington and Louisiana.
  • The sophomore pitched three innings on Sunday and carved four strikeouts on the way to his first win of the season. He is now up to 15 strikeouts on the season.
  • Hastings has a 0.70 WHIP and 1.15 ERA through his first 15.2 innings.
  • He had a dominant display against Louisiana on Feb. 22 with seven strikeouts while allowing only three hits and no earned runs.

  • Ryan Costello is cruising in his first season as a Terp.
  • On Saturday he hit the team's first grand slam of the season.
  • His season total of six home runs leads the team, along with his eight extra base hits, 21 RBI and 34 total bases.
  • His five RBI against Wagner on Feb. 28 and two homers on Feb. 22 lead the team in single game totals.
Marvelous martin
  • Brayden Martin currently leads the team in both hits (21) and batting average (.438). 10 hits came over the weekend.
  • He also leads the teams in stolen bases with eight (first in the Big Ten) and has a 100% success rate.
  • Martin's plate production goes beyond his hits. He has only been struck out two times in 68 plate appearances and is second on the team in walks with nine.
  • The junior is third on the team for RBI with 11 on the season.
