
Spikes Shines As Terps Close Out Outdoor Opening Weekend

LONG BEACH, CA - Roman Spikes produced a standout mark in the 100 meters to lead the way for the Maryland Terrapins on day two of the Long Beach Opener. He recorded the eighth-best all-time performance in the event in the program's record book.
Spikes posted a time of 10.44 seconds to finish fourth overall on the day. The mark places the
sophomore on the program's top-10 list in the team's first meet of the outdoor season.
The Men's 4x100 team consisting of Sam Ford, Gabe Levrone, Roman Spikes and Tanner Leach turned in a first place performance in the event at a time of 40.93 seconds.
Justin DeVaughn secured a second-place finish in the 110m hurdles after recording a time of 14.36 seconds.
Three Terps recorded top-10 finishes in the 200 meters, Roman Spikes finished third (20.77), Tanner Leach placed fifth (21.25), and Gabe Levrone took sixth (21.30).
Joe Garzio turned in a first place performance at a clip of 1:52.07 in the 800 meters. In addition Mehdi Guerrah placed second in the 400mh at a mark of (52.88).
Rhys Allen and Ella O'Neall both placed second in the men's and women's shot put. Allen reached a distance of 17.13 meters and O'Neall hit a mark of 14.61 meters.
