Terps Close Regular Season With 78-72 Loss to No. 11 Illinois

Andre Mills scored 30 points as Maryland honored its four seniors in its final game at XFINITY Center in 2025-26.
COLLEGE PARK, MD — Maryland battled No. 11 Illinois from start to finish at XFINITY Center on Sunday afternoon, but the Fighting Illini escaped with a 78-72 win on Senior Day. The Big Ten bout was a two-possession game for the majority of the contest, but Illinois held on to drop Maryland to 11-20 and 4-16 in the Big Ten in 2025-26.
Andre Mills scored 11 of his game-high 30 points in the first half to clinch his 11th double-digit performance in his last 13 games. Mills has scored at least 14 points in six straight games, and netted his 19th double-figure game of his freshman season and his fourth with 20+ points. Mills is the first Terp since Joe Smith in 1993-94 to have two 30-point games as a freshman.
Five different Terps hit a three-pointer in a back-and-forth first half that saw Illinois take a tight 37-34 lead into the half. Maryland finished with nine triples on Sunday, pushing its season three-pointer total to 263, which is good for the fourth-most in Maryland single-season history.
Illinois got 22 points and 11 rebounds from David Mirkovic as the Fighting Illini moved to 24-7 (15-5 Big Ten) on the season. Maryland will head to Chicago to face Oregon in the First Round of the 2026 TIAA Big Ten Men's Basketball Tournament on Mar. 10.
