COLLEGE PARK, MD — Six Maryland men's lacrosse players earned Big Ten postseason honors, the conference announced Wednesday afternoon.
AJ Larkin, Henry Dodge, and Leo Johnson were each named to the All-Big Ten First Team, while Eric Spanos earned Second Team honors. Matt Higgins was selected to the All-Big Ten Freshman Team, and Trace Davidson received the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.
Larkin, one of two unanimous First Team selections, finished the regular season with a defense-leading 35 ground balls among defensive players while adding six caused turnovers. The long-stick midfielder has played a key role in helping the Terps rank second in the conference in goals allowed (9.02 per game). He has also contributed offensively with six goals and one assist this season.
Dodge, a faceoff specialist, earned First Team honors after leading the Big Ten in faceoff win percentage. He won 68.1 percent of his draws during the regular season, a mark that ranks fourth nationally. He also leads the team with 47 ground balls.
Johnson, Maryland's top offensive threat, was named to the First Team after recording a team-high 25 goals and 19 assists. His 44 total points rank second in the Big Ten, while his 4.0 points per game lead the conference. His 19 assists are tied for second in the league.
Spanos, a Second Team selection, finished the regular season second on the team in goals with 20, despite appearing in just eight games. He is tied for second in the Big Ten in goals per game (2.5) and tied for fourth in points per game (3.1).
Higgins, named to the Freshman Team, appeared in all 11 games and started the final eight at midfield. He recorded three goals and seven assists, with his assist total ranking fourth on the team.
Davidson, a senior defenseman, earned the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award. The honor is given to individuals who distinguish themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. Recipients must also be in good academic standing and demonstrate strong citizenship beyond athletic competition.
The No. 3-seeded Terps return to action Saturday, April 25, at 6 p.m. in the Big Ten Quarterfinals against No. 6 seed Rutgers at SECU Stadium. The game will be streamed on Big Ten Plus.
