MOVING ON: No. 4 Terps Advance To Big Ten Tournament Semifinal Round With 10-9 Win Over Ohio State

A pair of hat tricks lifted Maryland past the Buckeyes for the second time in five days.

ANN ARBOR, MI — The No. 4 ranked and No. 2 seeded Terps downed No. 7 seeded Ohio State 10-9 in the opening round of the Big Ten Tournament on Friday afternoon. Maryland advanced to Friday's semifinal round, improved to 15-2 (6-2 Big Ten) in 2026, and eliminated the Buckeyes as both Kori Edmondson and Jordyn Lipkin netted hat tricks.

Maryland's top two scorers — Lauren LaPointe and Edmondson — both scored in the Terps' three-goal opening quarter. Edmondson scored the opener before LaPointe tied the game at 2-2 and Kayla Gilmore gave Maryland its first lead with her 10th goal of the season.

Gilmore had an elite day at the X, winning eight of Maryland's 15 draw controls as Ohio State was limited to only six. Maryland won six of the second quarter's seven draw controls and Gilmore scored a pair of goals in the victory. Edmondson added a pair of second-quarter goals to seal her hat trick as Maryland took a 7-5 lead into the break. Kristen Shanahan and Lipkin both scored in the frame as five first-half saves from JJ Suriano ensured the Terps had an advantage to protect for the final 30 minutes of action. Lipkin scored the Terps' lone goal in the third quarter before opening the fourth-quarter scoring by securing her hat trick. In two games against the Buckeyes this season, Lipkin tallied six goals and 11 points.   The Terps outlasted the Buckeyes after a dramatic fourth quarter to earn their 16th win of the season. Maryland overcame four goals from Ohio State's (9-8, 3-5 Big Ten) Kate Tyack to advance in the Big Ten Tournament. The Terps advance to the semifinal round on Friday against the winner of No. 3 seeded Johns Hopkins vs No. 6 seeded Rutgers.
