Spartans Even Series With 12-4 Win Over Maryland

Brayden Martin, Bud Coombs, and Ryan Costello logged multi-hit games on Saturday.

EAST LANSING, MI — Maryland fell 12-4 to Michigan State on Saturday afternoon as the Spartans evened the weekend series and dropped the Terps to 21-22 (6-14 Big Ten) on the season. 

Just as they did in Friday's 18-10 win, the Terps plated three runs in the top of the first. The three-hit inning featured RBI knocks from Ryan Costello and Bud Coombs as Maryland and Michigan State traded three-run frames.  David Mendez kept his hot streak rolling with an RBI single in the third inning to tie the game at 4-4. A day after recording six RBIs, he extended his hitting streak to 17 games on Saturday. Coombs, Costello, and Brayden Martin all logged multi-hit games as the Terps collected X base knocks.  Michigan State used a three-run homer in the third inning to claim a 7-4 lead and added to it in the closing innings as the Spartans moved to 15-24 (9-14 Big Ten) on the season. Maryland goes for the series win on Sunday at 1 PM.
