Hawton-Henley’s Grand Slam Highlights Terps’ 15-2 Win Over Navy

The freshman’s first-career homer was a big one in Maryland’s midweek victory.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — The Maryland bats rolled in the Terps' 15-2 midweek win over Navy on Wednesday afternoon. Nate Nate Hawton-Henley crushed a grand slam as one of Maryland's 13 hits as the Terps improved to 15-18 (2-10 Big Ten) in 2026.

Hawton-Henley's fourth-inning grand slam marked the freshman's first-career homer and highlighted a five-run, four-hit frame that gave the Terps their first lead of the afternoon. Hawton-Henley tallied his fifth-career multi-hit game in the midweek win.  Brayden Martin had a historic Wednesday. He drew a walk in the third inning to extend his on-base streak to 63 straight games, including each of the first 33 games of the 2026 season, which set a new program record for consecutive games reached safely to start a season.  Jake Yeager got the nod in the midweek clash as the first of only three Terps to toe the rubber on Wednesday. He held Navy to a lone run across his five-inning outing, which tied his season high. Yeager collected five strikeouts across his 82-pitch day that lowered his seaon ERA by over a full point.  Jordan Crosland opened the scoring for the Terps in the top of the third by plating Hawton-Henley with a sacrifice fly. The RBI marked Crosland's 10th over his last six games and tied the midweek contest, and he finished with two on the day.

David Mendez logged a three-hit day and drove in a trio of runs, including two on a bases-loaded single during Maryland's seven-run eighth inning that put the win on ice. Paul Jones II, Colin Gibbs, and Ty Kaunas each recorded multi-hit games in the win as Maryland earned its 13th straight win over Navy (18-13, 5-7 Patriot League) in their rich series history.  Maryland moved to 2-0 in what will be a five-game week for the Terps. A three-game Big Ten series against Indiana awaits Maryland in College Park this weekend, with the first game starting on Friday at 6 PM.
