COLLEGE PARK, MD-  No. 9 Maryland (5–4, 2–1 B1G) returns home for its final regular-season home game against Big Ten opponent Rutgers (8–4, 1–2 B1G) at 6 p.m. at SECU Stadium. Coverage will be available on BTN and the Maryland Sports Radio Network.

The Terps have an opportunity to clinch a share of the Big Ten regular-season title on Saturday with a win, provided Ohio State (1–2 B1G) defeats Johns Hopkins (2–1 B1G) at noon and Michigan (1–2 B1G) defeats Penn State (2–1 B1G) at 1 p.m.

The 2026 campaign represents the 101st season of Maryland men's lacrosse. The program has produced 532 All-Americans, appeared in 30 Final Fours, and captured four NCAA national championships. The Terps have finished .500 or better in every season.

Where we've been ...
  • The reigning national runner-up Terrapins are coming off an NCAA-best 22nd consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and their 30th Final Four overall, the most of any program. Maryland advanced to the NCAA Championship game for the ninth time in the last 14 tournaments and the 18th time in program history, beating Syracuse 14-8 in the NCAA Semifinal. The Terps finished 14–4 and recorded double-digit wins for the 22nd straight season, the longest active streak in NCAA Division I men's lacrosse.
  • Maryland heads into its final Big Ten home matchup of the 2026 campaign following an 8–7 overtime victory against No. 9 Ohio State. Senior defenseman Riley Reese scored his first career goal to give the Terps the win, marking Maryland's first ranked victory of the season. The Terps jumped out to a 4–0 first-quarter lead with goals from four different players, including Aidan Aitkens, who notched his first multi-goal game. Leo Johnson finished with a game-high four assists, and Eric Spanos assisted Reese's game-winning tally in overtime. Goalie Brian Ruppel made 10 saves, including several key stops in the fourth quarter, to keep Maryland in the game. It was also head coach John Tillman's 200th career win at Maryland.

Series history
  • The Terps and Rutgers will meet for the 39th time in program history and the 11th consecutive season, with the first matchup dating back to 1931. Maryland leads the all-time series 36–2 and has not lost to the Scarlet Knights in College Park since 1980.

    Last season, Rutgers defeated Maryland 9–7 in Piscataway, marking the Terps' first loss to the Scarlet Knights since joining the Big Ten. Prior to that, Maryland had won 19 straight games against Rutgers dating back to 1981, outscoring the Scarlet Knights 259–169 during that span.

About the coaches
  • John Tillman is in his 19th season as a head coach and his 16th with the Terps, owning a 220-79 career record for a .736 winning percentage, the highest among all active Division I coaches. Highlighted by an undefeated 2022 campaign, Tillman is 200-60 (.769)  as Maryland's head coach.
  • Brian Brecht is in his 15th season as head coach of the Rutgers men's lacrosse team in 2025, having led the program since 2012. He has guided the Scarlet Knights to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in 2021 and 2022, including a Final Four in 2022, three NCAA Tournament victories, and two Big Ten Coach of the Year honors. Brecht has developed 35 All-Americans and 33 PLL players.

SUCCESS at face-offs
  • The Terps' faceoff unit, featuring Henry Dodge and Jonah Carrier, is one of the most successful in the country, boasting a .608 win percentage, that ranks sixth nationally and first in the Big Ten.
  • Senior faceoff specialist Dodge is fourth in the country and leading the Big Ten winning 67.5% of his draws.
Big Crowds come out for the terps
  • In 2026, Maryland is currently second in the nation home attendance averaging 3,747 fans per game. 

    Maryland played in two of the three highest-attended regular-season games of the 2025 men's college lacrosse season, highlighted by a crowd of 10,137 fans when the Terps faced Notre Dame in Atlanta.

    The Terps ranked second nationally in home attendance despite playing the fewest home games among the top five programs, drawing a total of 28,079 fans.Maryland was also second nationally in average attendance in 2025 (4,011).

    SECU Stadium also hosted the third-largest regular-season crowd of 2025 when Maryland welcomed Johns Hopkins, attracting 10,123 fans.
