2026 Cross Country Campaign Begins Friday At Delaware Invitational

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- The 2026 Maryland women's cross country season officially gets underway on Friday morning as the Terps head to the Delaware Invitational hosted by the University of Delaware at White Clay Creek State Park in Newark.

The meet will be the first of four regular season races for Maryland before heading to the Big Ten Championships, NCAA Regional Championship, and the NCAA Championship meet in November.

The Terps are led by several veteran runners headlined by Rose Coats who has qualified for two consecutive NCAA Championship races and was an All-Big Ten First Team performer last season as a junior.

Along with Coats, Maryland features three seniors and six juniors on the roster.
Lucy Scothern and Eva Rogers are two of the top returning harriers for Maryland, while junior Annika Metzger is also poised to have a strong junior campaign.
Sophomore Katie Dutko was impressive last year in her rookie campaign where she earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week twice during the season.

Maryland added a talented transfer and freshman class to the roster for 2026.
Jayla Atkinson joins the Terps after two years at Kentucky, while Melina Johnston comes to College Park after two years at Richmond.
Kate Konyar and Kaleigh McHale are two of the talented freshmen to join the Terps this season. Konyar was a four-time Virginia All-State honoree, while McHale was a five-time all-conference selection.

COATS COMING OFF A STRONG JUNIOR SEASON

Rose Coats enters her senior campaign with the Terps as one of the top all-time runners in program history after back-to-back NCAA Championship appearances. Last season, the Brooklyn, NY, native also became the first harrier in program history to earn All-Big Ten First Team honors.
She is one of just two runners in Terp history to make back-to-back NCAA Championships joining Maryland Hall of Famer Rosalind Taylor. Additionally, Coats is a two-time NCAA All-Region honoree.
In the classroom, the chemical engineering major is a three-time USTFCCCA All-Academic honoree, a two-time CSC Academic All-District selection, and has earned multiple Academic All-Big Ten honors.
