As a Junior (2010-11): Battled through injuries to go 3-7 at 174 and 184 pounds.

As a Sophomore (2009-10): Went 10-13 at 174 pounds ... The starter at 174 pounds for seven matches ... Became a freestyle All-American, placing at the FILA Junior National Championships.

As a Freshman (2008-09): Won the red and black wrestle-off to secure a starting position as a true freshman ... Went 3-6 overall at 184 pounds before suffering a season ending injury.  

Before Maryland: Lettered four years in wrestling for the Cardinals ... State champion at 171 pounds as a senior, going 36-4 ... All-American as a senior ... Was a team captain for three years ... Coached youth wrestling at Maryland Mean Machine.

Personal: Owen Hugh Smith ... Son of Sean and Deborah Smith ... Father played football and was an All-American in lacrosse at Swarthmore ... Also recruited by Duke and Virginia Tech ... Chose Maryland for the academics and athletics ... Majoring in criminal justice.
