Biography

On Collins: An ultra-quick point guard and long-range threat who played a reserve role the last two seasons … one of two three-year Terrapins (along with Mike Grinnon) who was a part of the Terps' 2002 national championship run … played in nine of the Terps' last 10 games as a sophomore and will be in the mix this season at the point with John Gilchrist … was an outstanding scorer and exciting player in high school, and proved his ability to compete by playing in all three of Maryland's NCAA Tournament games a season ago.

Williams on Collins: “Andre got a chance to play more toward the end of last season and he proved he can score against anyone we play. Andre has to continue to work on his ball handling and his defense as he heads into his junior year.” 

As a Sophomore in 2003-03: Fleet-footed point guard who contributed reserve minutes as a backup to Steve Blake … played in 19 games and averaged a career-high 5.7 minutes per game … cut his turnover total by half from his freshman to sophomore season, and more than doubled his steals total (11) … earned playing time in all three of the Terps' NCAA Tournament games … dealt two assists in three minutes in Maryland's second round victory over Xavier (March 23) … provided 11 solid minutes and splashed in a 3-point field goal in a NCAA first round win over UNC Wilmington (March 21) … totaled 18 points, including an 8-of-15 total from the field, and added eight assists and four steals across the last eight games of the season … chipped in with an outstanding effort vs. North Carolina with eight points on 4-of-6 FG shooting, with three assists and four steals (Feb. 22) … netted a pair of 3-pointers to total six points vs. Loyola (Feb. 2) … contributed four points and three assists during eight minutes of action against Hampton (Jan. 8) … posted a near-perfect eight-minute stats line vs. The Citadel (Nov. 27) with nine points on 3-of-3 shooting overall, including a 3-pointer and 2-of-2 free throws, with three assists and a career-high three steals.

As a Freshman in 2001-02: Logged playing time in 22 games as a reserve, including two NCAA contests during the Terps' 2002 national championship run … made his collegiate debut against American (Nov. 17) … dished three assists in eight minutes against Delaware State (Nov. 24) and recorded his first collegiate steal … poured in six points on 2-of-3 shooting from 3-point range in five minutes against Monmouth (Dec. 11) … registered a career night with a career-high 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting and 11 minutes played vs. Norfolk State (Jan. 3) … scored seven points on 3-of-5 shooting against North Carolina (Jan. 9) … also matched his career high of three assists against the Tar Heels … added three assists to a five-point effort in five minutes of action at Florida State (Feb. 27) … his 3-pointer with no time on the clock vs. Virginia (March 3) will stand as the last field goal in Cole Field House history … was 3-for-3 from the field vs. Florida State in the ACC Tournament, contributing eight points, a rebound, steal and assist (March 8) … logged minutes in his first NCAA Tournament game vs. Siena (March 15).

At Hargrave Military Academy: Starting point guard for one season at Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Va., where current Terrapin teammate Hassan Fofana and former teammate Lonny Baxter played … averaged 15.6 points and 8.0 assists per game in helping his squad to an overall record of 27-1 … led the team in assists and was second in scoring … one of 11 players from his Hargrave team to land a Division I scholarship … scored 18 points, with seven rebounds and seven assists against Pfeiffer University JV … scored 20 or more in consecutive games against Rockingham JC (24), Guilford College JV (21) and Southern Virginia College JV (21) … played in the Charm City Challenge all-star game in Baltimore in April 2001, with classmate Michael Grinnon.

High School: Graduated in 2000 from Crisfield High School in Crisfield, Md. … prep All-American who led his team to a 25-3 record and a Maryland 1A state title as a senior … averaged 30.5 points, 9.9 assists, 5.1 steals and 4.9 rebounds per game on his way to earning first team all-state honors (small schools) … selected Player of the Year on the Eastern Shore and was tabbed to play in the Capital Classic All-Star game following his senior season … four-year starter who totaled 2,152 points in his career, never averaging fewer than 10 points in a season … a first team all-state selection as a sophomore, junior and senior.
