Jake Freelund is entering his second year as a Strategic Communications Assistant with Maryland Athletics after joining the department in 2025.
During his first year in College Park, Freelund served as the primary communications contact for the 2025 Big Ten Champion men's soccer team and the Maryland baseball program, while also serving as the secondary communications contact for the men's basketball team. He helped oversee communications efforts for a historic men's soccer season in which the Terrapins captured the Big Ten Championship, hosted the Big Ten Tournament and three NCAA Tournament matches, finished the regular season undefeated as the nation's No. 1-ranked team, and led the country in attendance.
Prior to Maryland, Freelund spent the 2024-25 academic year at Middle Tennessee State University, where he was the primary communications contact for the softball, volleyball, and indoor track and field programs. In that role, he managed media relations, produced game notes and press releases, maintained statistical records, and coordinated digital and social media content for his assigned sports.
A native of Millburn, New Jersey, Freelund graduated from Syracuse University in 2024 with a bachelor's degree in Sport Management from the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics and a minor in Strategic Management from the Martin J. Whitman School of Management. During his senior year, he interned with Syracuse Athletics' Athletic Communications office, where he gained experience in media relations, game operations, and strategic communications for multiple Division I athletic programs.
