BEFORE MARYLAND - Did not begin to run seriously until she enrolled at Syracuse, where she was a member of the club team for two years... lettered four times in swimming and twice in field hockey at nearby Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring, Md... two-time MVP and captain of swim team... holds school's breaststroke record.
PERSONAL - Daughter of Joan Phalen and Charles Cowdrey... has four brothers and one sister... cousin A.J. Godbolt is a midfielder on the Maryland men's soccer team... a journalism major... was editor-in-chief of her high school newspaper... interests include sports, traveling and writing.
