Morgan Ruhl

Morgan Ruhl was named to the women's soccer coaching staff on April 3, 2025, after five seasons as an assistant coach at Northwestern.

While at Northwestern Ruhl helped lead Northwestern to a Sweet 16 appearance in 2022. Ruhl helped lead Northwestern to 16 wins during the 2022 season, tying a program record for the most wins in a single season set in both 1998 and 2016. Goalkeeper Mia Raben earned Second Team All-Big Ten honors at goalkeeper under the tutelage of Ruhl in 2022. Raben finished the season with 58 saves, and just 14 goals allowed in 23 games. 

Also in 2022, Ruhl was named to the United Soccer Coaches 30 Under 30 List, a year-long education and mentoring opportunity for 15 male and 15 female coaches who are leading the way in developing soccer players and enhancing the game. In 2024, Ruhl presented on goalkeeper efficiency of movement at the United Soccer Coaches Convention. Ruhl has also served as goalkeepers coach for the Illinois Olympic Development Program.

Prior to coaching at Northwestern, Ruhl spent four seasons on the staff at Loyola Maryland. After serving as a volunteer assistant during the 2016 season, Ruhl was promoted to a full-time role in 2017. Ruhl was the goalkeeper coach for the Greyhounds, a side that allowed just 17 goals in 16 games in 2016. The team’s 1.05 GAA during the season ranked third in the Patriot League.

Ruhl previously with Academy One as a Goalkeeping Director and with the Baltimore Armour Development Academy as both Director of Goalkeeping and as an assistant coach.

Ruhl attended The McDonogh School in Owings Mill, Maryland , where she was a top recruit. Ruhl earned All-State, All-Metro, and All-Conference honors at McDonogh. Ruhl ranked in the ESPNHS Top 150 and Top Drawer Soccer Top 100 for the Class of 2012 out of McDonogh, and was a member of the U.S. National Team and Region I pools for three years during high school. She continued her soccer career at LSU, before her soccer career was cut short due to injury.

While in college, Ruhl served as a youth coach for the Baton Rouge Soccer Club and was a goalkeeper coach for Capital City United Youth Club. After her injury, she was an undergraduate assistant coach at LSU, working with the Tigers' goalkeepers.

Ruhl graduated from LSU with a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in special education. Ruhl also has a U.S. Soccer C License.
