Before Maryland: Swam at Bayport-Blue Point High School under coach Ed Kropp...was a New York state champion in the 50 free as a freshman and 100 free as a sophomore...finished second in the 100 free and third in the 200 free as a junior...captured a county record in the 200 free...named an All-American as a senior...competed for Islip Aquatics and Three Village Swim Club.
