HARRISONBURG, Va.- Senior catcher Scott Bronowicz broke a 2-2, fifth-inning tie with a two-run single and Maryland held off a late comeback attempt by James Madison to post a 6-5 non-conference win Tuesday afternoon at JMU's Long Field. The Terps, winners of eight of their last nine, improved to 16-19-1 with their second one-run victory against the Dukes in eight days, 7-6 in 10 innings.

Sophomore center fielder Larry Long, junior shortstop Casey Trout and sophomore first baseman Jason Mohap all went 2-for-4 for the Terps. Freshman third baseman Michael D'Archangelo had a two-run single in the sixth inning that pushed Maryland the lead to 6-2.

JMU senior Chard Hartman and freshman Greg Miller each had RBI singles in the eighth ining, the latter giving the Dukes runners at first and third with one out. But Hartman was picked off at at third by Bronowicz for the second out of the ining, and Miller tried to take second on a wild pitch, but he too felt the rath of Bronowicz.

Junior right-hander Mike Ginsberg pitched a perfect ninth to pick up his second save of the season and preserve the victory for sophomore starter Jamie Hammond. The left-hander worked seven innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on eight hits, struck out four and walked none in raising his record to 3-5 with his second consectutive win.
