
Clemson Beats Maryland Baseball Team 9-3

CLEMSON, S.C. - Mike Calitri belted a three-run double and Kahlil Greene launched a two-run home run, powering Clemson (18-3, 2-0 ACC) to a 9-3 win over Maryland (5-13, 0-2 ACC) in ACC baseball action at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Saturday. The game was the first of a doubleheader between the two schools.
Clemson opened up a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Calitri provided the big blow when he smacked his three-run double to deep center field.
Maryland got a run back when Craig Munroe doubled home Chuck Easter in the top of the fourth inning. The Tigers, however, stretched the lead to 5-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning when Patrick Boyd scored on a sacrifice fly.
The Terps got two runs back in the top of the eighth inning. Brian Patenaude singled home a run and Sean Lomas scored on a throwing error, cutting the deficit to 5-3.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, however, Greene's two-run home run to right field key a four-run Clemson outburst that sealed the game.
The two teams will play the final game of the doubleheader at 5:32 p.m.
