- Maryland fell to 11-4 on the season and suffered its first ACC loss in three tries in tonight's 86-83 loss to No. 9 North Carolina. The defeat was No. 14 Maryland's first in 11 games and the first to North Carolina in the last four meetings between the two teams at Cole Field House.
- The Terrapins' free throw shooting could not be blamed in the defeat as the Terps shot an outstanding 21-23 from the line for a season-high percentage (.913). It marks the second straight week that Maryland has set a season high for free throw percentage and the third time in a row that the team has been over 83 percent.
- The Terps carried a 36-32 lead into the half of tonight's game, continuing the trend this season as it has not trailed at the half in a single game of 2000-01.
- Maryland's big three of Juan Dixon, Terence Morris and Lonny Baxter combined for 63 points against the Tar Heels. It was the second time in three games that the trio had all teamed up for 20 each.
- Dixon led the way in scoring with 22 points. The junior has now scored at least 19 points in nine-straight games. In that span, he has averaged 22.9 points per outing.
- In addition to his overall scoring, Dixon also kept his free throw streak alive as he made 6-of-6 versus UNC to push his current run of free throws made to 41 of the last 43 he has attempted.
- With his 22 points, Dixon moved ahead of Terrapin legend Buck Williams (1979-81) and into a tie for 27th on the all-time Maryland scoring list. Dixon now has 1,161 points in his three years at Maryland and is tied with Maurice Howard (1973-76).
- Senior Terence Morris scored 20 points to go along with a team-leading 12 rebounds. It marked the second straight game that Morris has notched a double-double and the first time a Terp has had back-to-back double doubles since Lonny Baxter had consecutive double-doubles against Iona (3-16-00) and UCLA (3-18-00).
- In his last four games, Baxter is averaging 21 points and 10 boards per contest.
- Senior Lonny Baxter was the third Terp in double digits as he scored 20 to go with eight rebounds. Baxter fouled out at 4:53, but still managed his fifth game of the season with at least 20.
