Postgame Notes -- Maryland Versus NC State

Feb. 20, 2001

Recap | Box Score | Quotes

- Maryland continued to build the momentum it began three days ago at Wake Forest with tonight's 95-66 win over NC State. The Terrapins moved to 17-9 on the season and 8-6 in the ACC and cut the Wolfpack's lead in the all-time series to 67-61.

- Maryland has now won 19 of the past 22 meetings with NC State and four-in-a-row. Gary Williams has never lost to NC State at home and the Wolfpack has not taken a game at Cole since 1989.

- The Terps have also now won at least 17 games in a school-record eight consecutive seasons.

- The 29-point Terrapin win was their largest over an ACC opponent since February 21, 1999, when they handed Georgia Tech a 91-60 defeat (31 points).

- Maryland got it all started tonight with a big first half performance. Early on, the Terps took a 18-6 lead behind an 8-for-8 team shooting performance.

- The Terps built a 17-point halftime advantage (47-30) behind a 58 percent team shooting performance. The 47 points and 17 point advantage were the team's best marks since the Georgia Tech game on January 6, 2001.

- Maryland shot the lights out tonight while holding NC State to 36.5 percent shooting. The Terps' 58.7 shooting performance was its best this season in ACC play and its defense on NCSU marks the second straight game that it has held an opponent under 40 percent (Wake shot 31.5).

- With 12 points tonight, Byron Mouton moved beyond the 1,000-point plateau for his career and now has 1,001. That makes four current Maryland players (Mouton, Baxter, Morris and Dixon) who have scored 1,000 or more for their career, a feat that no other team in the country can claim at this point this year.

- Juan Dixon was the offensive star of tonight's game, notching a season-high tying 30 points on an incredible shooting performance. Dixon started the game 5-for-5 in the first half and finished the game 11-of-12 from the field (4-of-5 from 3) and 4-of-5 from the line.

- Dixon's 30 points marked the fifth time in his career that he has gone over 30 in a game. That makes him the fifth Maryland player to achieve that feat and he joins some select company -- Walt Williams, Joe Smith, Len Bias and John Lucas.

- Point guard Steve Blake has another solid game, scoring a season-high 15 points to go along with nine assists and six rebounds. He was 5-of-9 from the floor (3-of-6 from 3) and 2-of-2 from the line.
