Postgame Notes - Maryland Versus Clemson

Feb. 4, 2001

Recap| Box Score| Quotes

- Maryland moved to 15-6 on the season and 6-3 in the ACC with its 69-54 win over Clemson. Maryland now leads the all-time series with the Tigers, 78-42.

- In the win, the Terrapins held the Tigers to their lowest point total of the season, their previous low was a 57-point effort against Northwestern on November 28, 2000.

- In addition to the season-low point total, Clemson was also held to a season low in field goal percentage. The Tigers' 30.5 shooting percentage was almost a full four percentage points behind its previous low (34.3 vs. South Carolina, 12-9-00).

- It was obvious early that -- with the exception of the outcome -- this game would not resemble the first meeting between the two teams, one that ended with a combined 196 points being scored. In the first half, Maryland held Clemson to 22 points (the fewest it has held an ACC opponent this year), a total that is 34 points shy of the 56 scored by intermission in the teams' first meeting.

- Clemson made the game close with 6:15 to go as it cut Maryland's lead to four at 54-50. From that point on, however, it was all Maryland as the Terps closed the game with a 15-4 run to close out the game.

- Maryland blocked 10 Tiger shots, marking the fifth time this year the Terps have gone into double figures in blocks. It was the first time this season, however, that a double digit effort has been registered against a conference opponent.

- The Terrapins game was short on mistakes against Clemson as the Terps committed just 14 fouls and had more assists (18) than turnovers (13). The clean play by Maryland limited the Tigers' free throws as they shot just eight for the game and hadn't attempted their first until the 12:30 mark of the second half.

- Lonny Baxter finished the game with 14 points and 13 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season and the 16th of his career. Baxter virtually wrapped up the feat on one possession in the second half when he alone had four shots, three rebounds and two points.

- Steve Blake tied a season high with 12 points. He also had five assists which now gives him 361 for his career, pushing him into the Maryland top 10 in that category.

- Terence Morris was huge down the stretch scoring eight of the Terrapins final 13 points. He finished the game with a team-high 18 points and nine rebounds. With his nine rebounds, Morris has now gone over 800 for his career as he stands eighth on the Maryland career list with 805.

- Juan Dixon posted the second double-double of his career as he scored 11 points to go along with a career-high tying 11 rebounds. The feat marked the first time that two Terps achieved a double-double in the same game since March 16, 2000, when Morris and Baxter notched double-doubles against Iona in the first round of the NCAA Tounrnament.
