
Terps Tripped Up By Virginia, 3-2

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland volleyball team fell to the University of Virginia Tuesday night, 3-2, in Comcast Center Gymnasium. With the loss, Maryland fell to 22-7 (11-4 ACC), while the Cavaliers improved to 24-7 (8-7 ACC).
Pacing the Terrapins was senior Lynnsy Jones with 18 kills, two aces, 13 digs and three blocks. Playing in their last home match as Terrapins, Jones, Fiona DeFreitas and Lauren Wilson were honored with their families before the match. DeFreitas finished with 27 digs, one shy of a career-high.
Other Terps in double digits for kills were Stephanie Smith (17), Maria DiLivio (11) and Sarah Treadwell (10). Smith contributed a .433 attack percentage and nine blocks, Treadwell notched 23 digs and DiLivio posted 16 digs, five blocks and three aces.
Aimee Huddleston and Rachel Wagener also gave good all-around performances in the match, as Huddleston had six kills, 58 assists, 10 digs and five blocks, and Wagener had eight kills and seven blocks.
Despite leading two games to none, the Terrapins could not hold on for victory and Virginia captured games three, four and five. Leading the Cavaliers was Paige Davis (22 kills, 31 digs) and Alexis Geocaris (21 kills, seven blocks).
Maryland returns to the court Friday, Nov. 14, at Florida State. That match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
