Buffone, Hart Named To Baseball First Team All-ACC

SALEM, Va. - The University of Maryland's senior Anthony Buffone and junior Kevin Hart were named to the 2004 All-Atlantic Coast Conference First Team on Monday. The selections mark the first time a Terrapins has earned the honors since Chris Smoot and Derek Hacopian were selected in 1992.

Buffone was named to the first team as an at-large selection. As of Sunday, May 23, Buffone ranked fifth in the ACC with 1.49 hits per game and sixth in the conference with .32 doubles per game while leading the conference with 171 consecutive games played. He is third on the Terrapins with a .345 batting average and leads the team with 24 multiple-hit games. Buffone is also tied for third on the team with 34 RBI and is only one of two players to start each of the Terps' games this season.

Hart was selected to the first team at first base. His .373 batting average places him third among ACC players while his .602 slugging percentage ranks him seventh. Hart is also sixth in the conference with 2.33 total bases per game and is seventh with 1.44 hits per game. In four games this season, Hart has hit multiple home runs to give him a total of eight entering the ACC tournament.

The No. 9 seeded Terrapins will be in action on Tuesday, May 25, when they face No. 8 seeded Wake Forest University at Memorial Baseball Stadium in Salem, Va., for the opening round of the ACC tournament.
