Maryland Notables...

  • Maryland is playing in its 3rd Maui Invitational against one of the strongest fields in tournament history. Six of the seven Division I teams in the tournament are former national champions, including three top 10 teams from this year: #10 Arizona, Arkansas, Chaminade, #3 Connecticut, #9 Gonzaga, Kansas, #24 Maryland and #4 Michigan State. The Terps also competed in the Maui Invitational in 1994 and 2000.

  • Maryland fell to No. 8 Gonzaga in the opening round of the Maui Invitational on Monday, 88-76. Chris McCray had a team-best 18 points and D.J. Strawberry scored 16, but it wasn't enough to overcome 23 turnovers and a red-hot Bulldog team in the second half. The Terps shot 53.3% in the second half, but Gonzaga hit 19-of-25 field goals after intermission led by All-American Adam Morrison's 25 points.

  • The Terps are 1-0 all-time vs. Chaminade. No. 7 Maryland defeated the Silver Swords, 95-67, in the opening round of the 1994 Maui Invitational. Joe Smith had 26 points and current Terps assistant coach Keith Booth scored 16 to lead Maryland. The Terps went on to defeat Utah before falling to Arizona State in the championship game.

  • Head coach Gary Williams is the 11th-winningest active coach in NCAA Division I men's basketball with an overall record of 542-307 (.639). He is also the Atlantic Coast Conference's second-winningest active coach with a 335-179 (.652) record as The Terps' mentor, while ranking 5th all-time among ACC coaches with his 335 wins at Maryland.
