Maryland Tops St. Francis Xavier 90-59 In Exhibition

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) - Mike Jones scored 17 of his 19 points in the decisive first half, and Maryland opened its exhibition season by beating St. Francis Xavier 90-59 Saturday.

Jones came off the bench to score the final seven points of a 16-0 run that enabled the Terrapins to turn a 9-2 deficit into an 18-9 lead.

Maryland closed the half with a 16-4 run that made it 49-33.

Chris McCray and Will Bowers each scored 13 points for the Terrapins, who had five players reach double figures.

St. Francis Xavier, a Division II school based in Nova Scotia, got 17 points from Garry Gallimore. The X-Men made only two baskets over the final 12 minutes while Maryland closed with a 24-6 run.
