Terps Set to Take On N.C. State

College Park, Md. - The Maryland Terrapins take on ACC rival N.C. State in Raleigh, N.C. tomorrow. The meet is their first in the ACC in over two months. The last was a tri-meet held in College Park against Duke and Miami.
The women enter the meet with a record of 6-3, 3-2 ACC, while the men are 3-5, 0-4 ACC. Both teams split their last meet in Pittsburgh against Villanova and the host Pitt Panthers. Each team defeated Villanova, the men posting a dominating 268-68 win, while the women held off the Wildcats to the tune of 187-161. Both teams came up short against Pittsburgh, though. The men lost 247-77 while the women fell 209-141.
Last time out for the Terps (Jan. 13-14 vs. Villanova and Pittsburgh)
On the women's side Junior Sasha Malanina (Volgograd, Russia) took the 400-IM with a time of 4:25:96. Senior Inbal Levavi (Kibutz Givat Haim, Israel) finished third (4:32:57).
The 200-medley relay team of senior Barbara Sumrall (Chattanooga, Tenn.), senior Krisztina Kovacs (Budapest, Hungary), junior Gigi deToll (Culpeper, Va.), and freshman Yelena Skalinskaya (Almaty, Kazakhstan) finished in 1:44:35 to take the event.
The 400-medley relay team, with the same lineup, won with a time of 3:50:63.
Kovacs also was victorious in the 100-breaststroke (1:02:94).
On the boards, Nicole Rose (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) won the 1-meter board with a score of 234.05. She swept the diving events on Day 2 of the meet when she won the 3-meter board with a score of 242.65.
On the men's side Senior Danny Gray (Carlisle, Pa.) took the 100-free with a time of 46:14.
Gray led off the 200-free relay team, which also included freshman Matt Golebiewski (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.), freshman John Closs (New Providence, N.J.), and sophomore Eric Thomasson (Severna Park, Md.). The team took second, finishing in 1:25:69.
The 400 medley relay team of Thomasson, junior Tim Shepard (Catonsville, Md.), freshman Stefan Geisen (Lahnstein, Germany), and anchor Gray came in second with a time of 3:30:64.
The 400 free relay team of Geisen, Gray, Golebiewski, and Closs also took second (3:08:83).
Junior Tony Miller (Severna Park, Md.) took the 200 breast with a time of 2:11:77.
Senior Chris Starr (Ellicott City, Md.) and junior Andrew Doeck (Boca Raton, Fla.) finished second and third in the 200 free with times of 1:47:81 and 1:50:72, respectively.
The 1-day meet begins tomorrow morning at 11 A.M.
