Cecil Earns Preseason All-American Honors

Jan. 25, 2007

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland junior pitcher Brett Cecil added to his impressive resume as he was named to Baseball America's Preseason All-America Second Team this week. Cecil is one of 10 Atlantic Coast Conference student-athletes to earn All-America honors from the publication. In November, Cecil was recognized among the 62 players named to the Roger Clemens Award preseason watch list, given to the best college pitcher in the country.

The Dunkirk, Md., native made his mark on the Terps record books this past season, shattering the single season mark for saves with 13, a figure that nearly doubled the existing record of seven. That mark ranked third in the ACC and tied for 12th in the nation. In addition, Cecil recorded 54 strikeouts in 58.1 innings of work while compiling an ERA of 4.78. He tied for fourth on the all-time single season appearances list with 26.

For his career, Cecil has compiled a 5-6 record and 4.35 ERA in 44 appearances. He has pitched 101.1 innings, with six career starts. During the 2006 campaign, he notched career highs in innings pitched (7.1) against North Carolina State and twice struck out six batters, most recently at North Carolina on March 19.

The Terps open their season on February 9 when they travel to Rock Hill, S.C., for the Winthrop Challenge. First pitch against the host Eagles is set for 4 p.m.
