COLLEGE PARK, MD. - A record number of 259 University of Maryland student-athletes appeared on the 2006-2007 Atlantic Coast Conference Honor Roll, as released by the conference on Monday. It was the third consecutive year that Maryland has set a new record high in number of athletes on the honor roll.

The number of honorees was up from 254 in 2006, which had broken the previous year's record of 252 for 2005. Maryland has had at least 200 student-athletes reach the ACC Honor Roll in six of the last seven years.

Maryland ranked fourth overall and second among ACC public institutions. Only Duke (394), Boston College (393), and North Carolina (279) placed ahead of the Terps.

Highlighting the list for the Terps were Paula Infante, the ACC Player of the Year for field hockey, and Brian Phipps, who earned ACC Freshman of the Year honors for men's lacrosse.

Infante capped her career at Maryland by winning back-to-back NCAA titles and earning first team All-America honors for the fourth time, the first player in the program to garner first-team nods four-straight years.

There were 13 Terrapins who were honored for at least the fourth time by the conference, including Shay Doron, the former star guard for the Terrapin women's basketball. Doron currently plays for the New York Liberty of the WNBA.

The Honor Roll is comprised of those student-athletes who participated in a varsity-level sport and registered a grade point average of 3.0 or better for the full academic year.
