Streaking Terps: The Terps never trailed in cruising to a 28-point victory over Delaware State on Friday. In winning its third consecutive game and improving to 5-0 at home, Maryland now has won at least seven of its first nine games for the fifth time in the last six seasons dating back to 2003-04. Maryland's 86 points marks the team's highest offensive output of the season. The 28 points is the second-highest margin of victory for the Terps this season (29-point win vs. Bucknell in season-opener).
Maryland's No. 1: Fresh off a then-career-best 20-point performance against George Washington, Landon Milbourne continued to have a hot hand against the Hornets. The junior forward notched a career-high 23 points on 9-of-12 shooting and added seven rebounds. His shooting performance is the best by a Terp this season (minimum five shot attempts). The Terps are 5-0 this season when Milbourne scores in double figures.
Shooting Stars: Maryland enjoyed its best shooting game of the season thus far on Friday, converting 51.7 percent (31 of 60) of its shots from the field, including 54.8 percent during the second half.
Spreading the Wealth: The Terps put on an impressive display of ball movement against the Hornets, notching a season-high 23 assists. Led by Milbourne and Vasquez, four different Maryland players scored in double figures (also 12 apiece for Adrian Bowie and Eric Hayes).
Venezuelan Sensation: Guard Greivis Vasquez had a strong all-around game versus the Hornets, contributing 16 points and team-highs of eight rebounds and seven assists. The reigning All-ACC nominee fell just short of his third consecutive double-double. Vasquez now has scored in double figures in 34 of his last 36 games. He now has started 45 consecutive games for the Terps dating back to the 2007 ACC Tournament.
Dino-mite: Forward Dino Gregory scored a career-best seven points in the first half alone Friday, and finished the game with eight points and tied his career-best with three blocked shots.
Rebounding Edge: After out-rebounding the Hornets 41 to 30, the Terps now have out-rebounded their last three opponents by an average margin of 10.3 rebounds per game (129 to 98).
Hayes' Free-Throw Streak: When Hayes missed a free throw early in the second half, it broke a string of 20 consecutive conversions from the charity strip dating back to last season's game vs. Clemson on March 2. The junior guard finished 1-for-2 from the line Friday. His career free throw percentage of .889 (96/108) would be tops all-time in Maryland history.
Free Throw Shooting: Maryland entered Friday's game ranked sixth in the nation in free throw shooting (79.2 percent) and continued to shoot well from the strip versus the Hornets, hitting 18 of 23 (78.3 percent). Milbourne and Vasquez combined to connect on 9 of 9 free throw attempts.
Record Book Update: Several Maryland players have continued their ascents this season through the Maryland record book. With his performance against Delaware State, Vasquez passed Kevin McLinton (1990-93) to claim 42nd place on the team's all-time scoring list with 1,069 career points. Vasquez's seven assists against the Hornets catapulted him past Brad Davis (1975-77) and into ninth place in school history with 434 career assists. Hayes hit three 3-pointers, breaking a tie with Terrell Stokes (1996-99) to claim sole possession of 15th place all-time in career 3-point field goals with 92.
Coaching Legend: Now with 611 career victories overall, Williams remains in sixth place among active NCAA Division I coaches. He stands two wins behind Houston coach Tom Penders (whose squad has five wins thus far this season) for fifth place all-time. Williams, who posted his 400th win at Maryland with an overtime victory over Vermont on Nov. 21, also now has 404 career victories as coach of his alma mater.
That's Comcastic: The Terps now have won 58 of 62 non-conference games since moving into Comcast Center in 2002. The team stands 90-20 (.818) all-time in games played on its current homecourt.
Trey Streak Intact: With Eric Hayes' 3-point basket with 13:51 remaining in the first half, the Terps extended their streak of hitting at least one shot from beyond the arc to 329 consecutive games.
Series Record: By winning Friday night's game, Maryland improved to 5-0 all-time vs. Delaware State.
