Jim Farr Promoted to Associate Head Coach

Aug. 5, 2008

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - After three seasons as the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator of the University of Maryland baseball team, Jim Farr has been named associate head coach, Maryland head coach Terry Rupp announced Tuesday.

Farr's duties within the program will mostly remain the same. Farr will train and coach the pitching staff, direct the Terrapins' recruiting duties and coordinate summer youth camps.

"I'm looking forward to continuing to work on the growth and development of the pitching staff," Farr said. "We have some talented young pitchers in the program and I'm excited to get back to work with them while also continuing to improve our recruiting efforts."

Farr, who pitched in the Major Leagues, has previous head coaching experience at William & Mary, where he spent 13 seasons and left as the school's all-time winningest coach. The Tribe had five consecutive 30-win seasons from 2000-2004 under Farr's guidance, including the school's first conference title in 2001.

Farr has coached current Major League Baseball players Chris Ray, Brendan Harris and Bill Bray. Additionally, Farr has already coached four pitching draft picks at Maryland, including 2007 first-round selection Brett Cecil.

Farr's hard work in recruiting has helped bolster the Terps' roster as they compete in the ultra-competitive Atlantic Coast Conference. The Terps' incoming recruiting class features several of the top players from the talent-laden state of Virginia.
