COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Maryland returns to Comcast Center on Tuesday for the first of back-to-back home games in a matchup against Boston College. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN2 and pregame festivities begin on the Terrapin Sports Radio Network at 6:30 p.m. The Terrapins are 13-6 overall and 2-3 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, while the Eagles are 15-6 overall and 3-3 in the league. Boston College has won two straight coming into Comcast Center, having won in overtime at Georgia Tech and last Saturday at home in a 79-68 decision over NC State.
Update: Despite the inclement weather in the College Park area, tonight's game will go on as scheduled.
* The Terrapins are 11-1 at Comcast Center this season and hope the friendly confines can pull their league record above .500. Miami comes to College Park on Saturday night for a rematch of the 62-60 Hurricanes' victory on Jan. 14 in Coral Gables. The Terps have won their two previous ACC games at Comcast Center, 68-61 over Georgia Tech and 84-78 over Virginia.
* Junior tri-captain Landon Milbourne led Maryland with 19 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals in its recent game at Duke. Milbourne is now second on the team in scoring average (12.9 points per game) and rebounding (5.5 per game) and is scoring 13.4 ppg in conference play, shooting .538 from the floor. He is averaging 17.7 points per game in his last three games and has scored in double figures in 11 of the last 13 games.
* Sophomore guard Adrian Bowie is Maryland's leading scorer in league games, averaging 13.6 points per game while shooting .480 from the floor in those five games. Bowie has scored in double figures in four of his last five games.
* Maryland continues to be strong at the free-throw line this season, ranking among the leaders in the nation. The Terps' .778 percentage comfortably leads the Atlantic Coast Conference, with Virginia currently second at .749. Maryland's school-record for a season in team accuracy at the line is .758.
* Boston College is led by guard Tyrese Rice, one of the top players in the Atlantic Coast Conference. He is averaging 18.4 points per game, one of four Eagles averaging in double figures this season, and is second in the league with a 5.8 assists per game average. Rice has hit 42 shots from behind the arc this season and has already hit 111 free throws in 20 games.
* Joe Trapani is averaging 14.0 points and a team-high 7.1 rebounds per game, while Rakim Sanders (12.0 ppg) and Corey Raji (11.2 ppg) are also averaging in double figures.
Head Coach Gary Williams Quotes - Monday, Jan. 26
On the Boston College Eagles:
"It's been an interesting season for them. They beat the No. 1 team in the country [North Carolina] on their court. Then they lost to Harvard and went through a couple of tough ones after that. But they've won their last two, so it looks like they've got some of their confidence back at this point."
On Boston College guard Tyrese Rice:
"I think (Tyrese) Rice, maybe because he's in a pro town or something, he doesn't get the credit that he would if he were playing somewhere else that was an isolated campus. He's been, and is, one of the top players in the league, without a doubt. What I like about him is that he seems to get everyone involved early in the game. Then he looks at what's needed, and if it's scoring or getting the ball to whoever is hot, he seems to be able to do that. He's a really good player."
On where Maryland stands in the Atlantic Coast Conference:
"We're 2-3 right now. We lost to the No. 1 team in the country on their court, we lost in overtime and we lost by two points for our three losses. I'd rather have won two of those three games, but it's not like we played poorly until the Duke game Saturday. We played pretty well, I thought, the first two road games in the conference."
On freshman center Steve Goins:
"I thought Steve Goins came in at a time where it had nothing to do with whether we won the game or not, but I thought he did okay when he was out there, which was good to see. Any minutes we can get from other people is always good, especially this time of year. It just makes you a little deeper, and hopefully that'll work."
On sophomore forward/center Jerome Burney:
"He's practicing and he could play. We could throw him in there tomorrow night. [Conditioning] would be the biggest problem - how long he could go. Mentally, when you have a foot injury, when you jump you don't want to be thinking about how you're going to come down. Hopefully he can help us at time goes by."
On how his team is approaching Tuesday's game against Boston College:
"Our job after a game like that is to get back up and practice well the two days we've had to practice. We only get two days to get ready, so we have to really focus on Boston College and not dwell on what happened in that game."
