COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
The University of Maryland baseball team travels to NC State this weekend for a three-game Atlantic Coast Conference series against the Wolfpack.
Maryland comes into the series with a 6-7 overall record and 0-3 ACC mark. The Terrapins were swept in last weekend's ACC series opener at Georgia Tech, but rebounded with a pair of non-conference victories this week against Delaware and UMES, respectively.
The Wolfpack are 8-6 entering weekend play and were also swept on the road to begin conference play last weekend, losing all three games at Miami.
The series begins at 3 p.m. Friday with a pair of left-handed pitchers taking the mound. Freshman Matt Fullerton will take the mound for the Terps against State's superb southpaw, Jimmy Gillheeney, who ranks third in the ACC in strikeouts.
Staff ace Scott Swinson will take the hill for the Terps Saturday against Jake Buchanan and Sunday's finale also pits a pair of left-handed pitchers against each other. Sophomore Eric Potter will start for the Terps against Alex Sogard.
Maryland's offense has been paced so far by senior Gerry Spessard. Spessard, who has started all 13 games in left field, leads the Terps in batting average (.368), on-base percentage (.519) and RBIs (13).
The Terps and Wolfpack have split the last six games, with each team taking two of three games on the road. Maryland won the series at State in 2007 to begin conference play and the Wolfpack took two of three games late last season in College Park.
Live radio coverage of the entire series will be available for free online at WMUCSports.com.
