Terps Attend ACC Operation Basketball

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Maryland was selected Wednesday to finish sixth in the Atlantic Coast Conference men's basketball standings in balloting of the media assembled at Operation Basketball held at the Renaissance Suites Hotel.
The Terrapins got 432 points in 62 ballots submitted. Duke received 61 of the 62 first-place votes, getting 743 points. Virginia Tech was second in the balloting with 632 points, while North Carolina was third at 622, despite getting the other first-place vote.
NC State (526) and Florida State (496) were picked fourth and fifth in the balloting.
The bottom six in the balloting were Clemson, Miami, Georgia Tech, Boston College and Wake Forest.
Maryland was picked fifth in the same balloting a year ago but tied eventual national champion Duke for the top spot in the regular-season standings.
Duke's Kyle Singler earned the nod as ACC Preseason Player of the Year, with Harrison Barnes of North Carolina being the Preseason Rookie of the Year.
Singler, Malcolm Delaney of Virginia Tech, Nolan Smith of Duke, Tracy Smith of NC State and Chris Singleton of Florida State were voted to the ACC Preseason All-Conference Team. Maryland's Jordan Williams was seventh in the balloting for the preseason team.
Williams and Dino Gregory represented Maryland along with head coach Gary Williams, as all 12 teams sent student-athletes and coaches to meet the media in the annual session.
